In-Between Places

During the forty days after He suffered and died, He appeared to the apostles from time to time, and He proved to them in many ways that He was actually alive. And He talked to them about the Kingdom of God. (Acts 1.3 NLT)

I love to travel. I love experiencing new places, new cultures, meeting new people and seeing new things. It surprised me today to learn that the number one tourist destination in the world wasn’t Times Square, Disney Land or the Sydney Opera House. The number one tourist destination with 91,250,000 visitors a year was the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Read more

The World Will End Dec 21, 2012!

And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. (Mark 8.31 NKJV)

2012 promised to be a big year.

On November 6th Americans went to the polls to re-elect President Barak Obama, and on the 21st December 2012 the Read more

A high school science teacher wanted to teach his students a valuable life lesson. Taking a large jar, he placed several large rocks in it. He then asked the class, “Is it full?” Unanimously the class replied, “Yes!” The teacher then took a bucket of gravel and poured it into the jar. The small rocks settled into the spaces between the big rocks. And again he asked the class, “Is it full?” Read more

Seven Pounds

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved) (Ephesians 2.4-5 NKJV)

I recently watched the movie Seven Pounds. Will Smith plays a mysterious man who calls himself Ben and who spends all his time looking for strangers who need help, people dealing with illnesses, or in financial troubles or caught in abusive relationships. As selfless as that sounds, he has a personal reason for helping these people… (don’t read on if you intend to see the movie!)

Lessons From An Old Woman

On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. (Luke 13.10-11 NIV)

I remember the first time I prayed and God answered. I was nine years old at the time, and a relatively new Christian. It was a hot Brisbane day and my Dad had stopped at a petrol station to refuel the car. While he was inside, I said a very simple prayer, “God please let Dad buy me an ice-cream.” If only I had left it there, but not satisfied that my simple request would grab God’s attention, I felt compelled to add an additional sweetener on the end – “and I will serve you the rest of my life.”
